On March 18th, 2020, the Ivoryton Playhouse planned to open its doors for the start of a whole new season but the universe had other plans.
We have been closed down by the state since March 16th and have been waiting to hear if we may be able to produce a limited season in the summer or fall. But we are heading into summer and the likelihood of producing grows slimmer every day and so we have made the difficult decision to cancel our 2020 season.
If the world has changed enough for us to produce next year, then we will attempt 2020 Part 2 and hope to be able to produce everything we were prevented from producing this year – with bells on!
The Ivoryton Playhouse has been producing theatre for 90 years. The only years that it has been dark were during the Second World War and in 1977 when the future of the theatre hung in the balance and it was almost knocked down to make way for a drug store! But it has survived, through all of these challenges, and we are confident that we will be back – stronger and enriched by this unprecedented experience.
And so the curtain goes down on our 2020 season but we look forward with great hope and optimism to 2021 and a season filled with music and love and laughter and community!
Our creativity lies in our community; without our subscribers, members, single ticket buyers, volunteers and more we are simply small voices in an empty theatre. We value how you support and play your part in our organization so much.
While subscribers have already been contacted, if you currently hold single tickets for any of our 2020 season shows we will be contacting you soon or you can reply to this email. The Ivoryton Playhouse would like to offer you options to choose from for this year’s individual cancelled tickets:
1) You can use the price of the tickets as a generous donation to the Ivoryton Playhouse. This would be the most helpful to us as the theatre is suffering greatly during this pandemic. To acknowledge your gift, we will send you a postcard detailing the donation. We thank all of you that have already contacted us and donated tickets back to the theatre; it means more to us than you can know.
We understand that this is not possible for everyone – everyone’s situation is different and we will certainly take care of you and your concerns by offering these other alternatives:
2) A gift certificate for the amount of money you paid (less service charges) that can be used towards tickets to any show we produce in future – there is no expiration date on gift certificates;
3) We can process a refund by check for the amount of money you paid for the tickets (less service charges).
We have a very small staff working right now but be assured you will be contacted over the next couple of weeks or you can reply to this email. We pride ourselves on our customer service – we are here for you and we will respect your wishes.
Stay safe because we are looking forward to seeing you in person at the Playhouse as soon as we can.
With love,
Jacqui Hubbard
